Montauk, New York

New York is known for many things; hot dogs, hot streets but not necessarily hot beaches. Yet tucked away on the tip of Long Island, one will find Montauk. This self proclaimed “anti-fashionista,” “anti-chic beach” community has actually been one the most fashionable and chic summer hot-spots to visit in recent years.

Surfers, soul searchers and summer sun seekers alike, are drawn from May to September to enjoy the what Montauk has to offer; from beautiful beaches to exquisite seafood restaurants and bustling bars scenes.

Book a stay at the Montauk Beach House for some well deserved R&R outside of the city. This boutique hotel is both stylish and slick, embracing beachy decor and color minimalism, the simplistic yet artistic Montauk Beach House provides the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. Located one block from the beach, find the hotel’s ambient pool and terraza draped in vines and white blossoms, where you can order up a frosty cocktail or dip into a selection of delicious light bites.

If you plan to head to the beach, the hotel offers beach chairs and towels, as well as old fashioned bikes to explore the town. Post beach or pool “sun soaking,” head to watch the sunset at Surflodge or Navy Beach. If you are seeking a romantic nook, Navy Beach serves some of the best food in the area with a view to boot; grab a cabana and be sure to order up the restaurant’s lobster roll or crab cake (accompanied of course by a refreshing “Fort Pond Bay” – Rosé, Grey Goose l’Orange, Raspberry & Cucumber.)

If you are looking for some delicious seafood, the charming South Edison is also a top choice, with a “locals only” vibe and warm atmosphere. Dine by candlelight, to outstanding but plentiful dishes that combine local flavor with local fish. Basically everything on this menu rocks, but a must is the The Spicy Tuna Tartar BLT (yes it exists) comprised of house-smoked bacon crumble, heirloom tomato, spicy aioli, crema & a white corn tortilla. Order up a main to follow, such as the Chillie Dusted Sea Scallops, seared black & blue and served with glass noodles, roasted red pepper marcona almond romesco, oyster mushrooms & brussel sprouts. Wash all the latter down with the restaurant’s Basil Pepper Gimlet, and you’re good!

No matter where you decide to surf, dine, or enjoy the sunshine, make sure Montauk is on your bucket list next summer!
